OUR STORY

Paris, May 2020. 14km is born in the middle of confinement.

No wonder. 14km has to do with mobility and the urge to pursue one’s goal
no matter what. For Keshia Dupros, 14km’s founder, it is high time to
complete a project she has been planning for years: promote the African
continent and foster a better understanding and easier access to Africa, be it
for business purposes or personal reasons. “Africa has always been a part of
my life somehow. I have personal ties with the continent, friends and family.
And my professional sphere has mostly gravitated around the continent. It
has so much to give and teach to all of us”.

But the origins of the project are also to be found in the multiple clichés about
Africa mostly fuelled by
ignorance. “Even though we are seeing some
improvement, there is still a lot to do to showcase the multifaceted strength of
the continent. A great majority of Europeans are unaware of what Africa has to
offer and the best way to address that is to get them to experience the continent in a much deeper and meaningful way, that is through mobility to
Africa”. Equally paramount to 14km was to allow the
Europe- based African
diaspora to impact their original homelands via game-changing projects and
initiatives.

Hence the creation of 14 km, the first of its kind comprehensive ecosystem dedicated to mobility in Africa. “there is a variety of very specialized forums and events focusing on one single aspect, whether human resources or investment. 14 km gives you the full picture while providing you with all the tools you need to succeed and thrive in Africa”.

OUR NAME

14km (14 miles) is the shortest distance between
Europe and Africa through the strait of Gibraltar.
It can be travelled in 35
minutes by ferry. To give
you an idea of
how close the two continents are
from one another, it is the equivalent of a trip from
Paris to Orly
airport, the equivalent of an 1 hour
and
10 minutes run. The equivalent of 1007
calories burned, that is a white hot chocolate & a
cinnamon bun and less
than a peanut sauce for 4.
In short, 14
km is a ridiculously close distance. Call
it a non distance. And that’s the very point.

14km is a vivid reminder of the contiguity of Europe
and
Africa. Of their common history. A call to
acknowledge this geographical proximity and
translate it into powerful bonds and shared
success. Be it human, cultural, economic,
intellectual, technological.

You can actually see Africa from Europe. So look beyond stereotypes,
apprehension, doubts. But do not keep watching from a distance:
get closer, hit the road.

14km wants to demystify, grow & herald Africa,
by facilitating access and knowledge of the continent,
forging impact stories and creating strong cross-cultural
